Leeds United have completed the signing of Argentinean striker Luciano Becchio.
He had been training with Leeds and impressed manager Gary McAllister in pre-season friendlies.
He began his career at Boca Juniors and has also had spells with Barcelona and Real Mallorca.
Jermaine Beckford grabbed his fourth goal in as many pre-season appearances as Leeds beat Belgian side FCV Dender 4-1 at Elland Road.
But boss Gary McAllister must have been equally pleased with his goal-scoring central defenders.
Paul Huntington (twice) and Rui Marques were on the mark as victory wiped out the memory of the dull goalless draw at Darlington in midweek and left the side unbeaten during their seven match pre-season programme.
Dender, who finished 15th in the Belgian top flight last season, created little and had to be content with a consolation effort from Bart Van Den Eede, five minutes into the second half after a mix-up between Frazer Richardson and keeper Casper Ankergren.
Huntington’s first arrived in the 24th minute when Robert Snodgrass and Andy Robinson linked up well and Enoch Showunmi’s cross was turned into the bottom corner by the goal-hungry defender.
Former Livingstone forward Snodgrass, playing wide on the right, provided several excellent crosses, Marques profiting from one of them with a near-post header on 28 minutes. Beckford tucked the ball home six minutes later as Showunmi put him through and although the Belgians got on the score-sheet, Huntington confidently headed Peter Sweeney’s corner past the keeper for his second with four minutes left.
McAllister said: “We had width with a bit of quality from Snodgrass and Andy Robinson and it was good that a few of our new players had their first taste of playing at Elland Road.
“The team looked strong, we passed the ball well and it doesn’t take a genius to realise the team that played in the first hour or so will be pretty close to my starting line-up at Scunthorpe on Saturday.”
