WELCOME TO SIMON GRAYSON OUR NEW MANAGER - GOOD LUCK

Grayson emerged as a surprise candidate for the position yesterday, and although Leeds were initially refused permission to discuss terms with the manager by Blackpool, the club have announced his appointment with "immediate effect".

-

The 39-year-old, who guided Blackpool to promotion to the Championship in 2007, is understood to have informed the Blackpool chairman, Karl Oyston, of his wish to leave yesterday, after learning of Leeds' interest.

-

Although the club had posted a statement on their website insisting that Leeds' approach had been rejected, believed to have been influenced by an insufficient offer of compensation, Oyston was under no illusions that he would be hard pressed to prevent Grayson's departure.

-

Leeds will have had to have paid a substantial compensation fee to Blackpool, believed to be a six-figure sum, as Grayson's contract still had 18 months left to run.

-

The former Blackpool defender started his career at Elland Road as an apprentice and made two senior appearances for the club before joining Leicester City in 1992.

-

As well as playing for Premier League clubs Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers, he made over 100 appearances for Blackpool. On his retirement, he was appointed the club's reserve team coach, and a year later first team manager.

-

Let's all get behind him and the team and who know's we could still have a great season. Let's hope the recovery starts against Leicester on Boxing Day.
